Its tone adds depth and natural shadow to wood finishes without obscuring the underlying color, helping flat painted surfaces develop the variation and character of real wood. AK recommends it over both lighter and darker wood tones.

The wash flows naturally into recessed detail and along plank lines, making it particularly effective for wooden structures, freight cars, loading docks, crates, pallets, fences, floors, furniture, and vehicle accessories. Apply it around details with a brush, allow it to settle, then blend or remove excess with a clean brush and White Spirit. It can be used selectively to darken individual areas or more broadly to emphasize grain and separation between boards.
